Ashot Avagyan

Born in 1958 Sisian, Armenia

Mr. Avagyan graduated from the Terlemezyan College of Fine Arts in 1981 and began teaching at the Sisian school
of Art soon thereafter. From 1988-1996 he was an active participant in the Armenian movement for independence,
serving in various capacities in southern Armenia and Karabakh. Since 1997, he has organized  annual, interactive
open air exhibitions, performances and rituals among the sacred sites and monuments in and around Sisian, in Southern Armenia.

He has included groups of artists, musicians and spectators at these “actions,”
documenting the resulting cultural exchanges via video. His most acclaimed events
have been centered around the “Dick-Dick Qarer” and  Ughtasar--late neolithic and
megalithan period, petroglyph rich formations and monuments.

He is the author of two video films entitled, respectively,  “Braver’s Spirit” (1997)
and “Ideal Fix” (1998). Ideal Fix has been screened at two international film festivals.
